AIRPORT REFUSES TO ACCEPT COURT RULINGS

I regret to inform you that in spite of two judges and three separate rulings in favor of Spring Lake, the Airport has chosen to take the case to the State Appeals Court. This continued waste of public funds, and their refusal to pay their fair share to operate and maintain the Spring Lake stormwater system, is a travesty. Led by Executive Director Mike Willingham and Airport Attorney Bob Swain, their Board of Directors refuse to take the proper and honorable option of paying their fair share. It is no surprise they have Appealed, as they have exhibited arrogance and entitlement throughout this court process. They also know that our hands are tied until the case runs its course thru the court system. They have money, power, and the good old boy network.

You may have seen in the News-Sun that the State awarded the Airport $3 million to refurbish parts of their own stormwater infrastructure, with not one penny earmarked for Spring Lake! These corporate elitists continue to turn their backs on Spring Lake and have no problem being bad neighbors and expecting our residents to underwrite their costs, in spite of being a $9 million corporation. It is time for us to be bad neighbors as well.

It is disappointing that only a few residents have taken to writing letters to the editor, going on social media, or discussing this issue at their HOA meetings. This is costing each and every resident money out of their pocket, and we should all be outraged. While we can’t take adverse action because the case is still in the court system, that doesn’t mean we can’t act in the court of public opinion. You need to have your voice heard and share your thoughts.

The District Board is now waiting for the Appeals process to go thru its timetable, and the Airport has another 60 days to file additional paperwork to the courts, and the District then has to respond. All court rulings are on the District web site at www.springlakefl.com  in the upper headings.

It is very appropriate that we are in the Holiday Season, as the Airport Board and Management are certainly the Grinches impacting Spring Lake

On another note, the District offices will be closed December 24 thru the weekend, and reopen December 29

A BLESSED AND MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE DISTRICT BOARD AND STAFF
