District Update
The District Office will be closed tomorrow in observance of Veterans Day; we will reopen on Tuesday. Emergency services will be available by calling 863-655-1715.
On another note, here is a way for you to contribute to the future plans of our County:
The Highlands County Land Conservation Program public voting period is now open through Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.
Prior to voting, please watch a short informational video on how to vote for your top three conservation values:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC2kZ1drSYo
Shown below are the seven potential conservation values for Highlands County's Land Conservation Program:
1) Threatened and Endangered Species and Habitats
2) Wildlife and Conservation Corridors
3) Surface Water Quality
4) Drinking Water Protection
5) Preservation of Agricultural Lands
6) Access to Recreation
7) Protection of Historic and Cultural Resources
After watching the informational video, please vote below for the top three conservation values you would like to see included as part of
Highlands County’s land conservation program. There are no right or wrong answers; simply pick the values that speak to you the most.
The results of this survey, and the public meetings held in October 2025, will be used to create the ballot language for a potential 2026 ballot referendum and prioritize the lands the County should protect.
If you have questions about Highlands County's Land Conservation Program or about the conservation values voting, please email Heather Nagy, Strategic Initiatives Manager with the North Florida Land Trust, at hnagy@nflt.org, or Sam Erikson, Highlands County Natural Resources Specialist, at seriksen@highlandsfl.gov
